On the first day, Mary's friend, Amos came to pay respect to Ah Po. And he sat together with us in the table, helping us to fold the incence paper for several hours all the way to sunset. He seemed to be the only figure that stayed constant in that table. Once in a while, each of us would disappeared from the table. But he would sat there diligently and continued to fold the paper ,and talked to whoever was sitting there. He could talk to anyone. He was neither shy or evasive. He would tell anyone about his family background, happy and sad memories. He could speak non-stopped if you din mind. He had the appetite of an elephant. He would not reject your offer for food. But strangely, he was as thin as Ah Joe. He told us he had never been any fatter than his current shape.
He visited the hospital 22 times last year. He lamented on the irony that he was closer to any strangers than his own kins. Being the youngest in his family, he was always chided by his family over his underperformance. His siblings were either in senior management or in the teaching profession. From the conversation, he seemed to have a not so happy childhood. Later he disclosed that he was recently wrongly sacked by his current company for something that apparently was not his fault.
He told us that he had a few companies already calling him for interviews, which he had asked for postponement to a later date after the funeral. Such kind soul was hard to find already. Like dou told me candidly 2 days ago. "How come good guys dont live long??"
