Time really flies. It is coming to the end of the year again. Or is it the start of a brand new year where we can start afresh again?? I was at a friend's place for housewarming on new year's eve. It happened that we were watching the "The Day After Tomorrow" DVD. The issue of the Tsunami was being discussed. One of them commented that it resembled the relevations in bible. My friend, who was a Christain, said that there would be 2 signs before the judgement day. One being the big flood and the other the big fire. I hate to play clairvoyant and predict God's will. Come what come may, at a time he so wishes. We can only pray for mercy. There were pictures and reports on the aftermath of what's left of phuket splashing all over the sunday newspaper. There was even a combo picture, which captured the sequence of events on how a resort by the sea was eventually covered by tsunami. There was also a graphical representation of how a height of a man as compared to the tsunami. A headline in the newspaper" Did not even have time to react" caught my attention. The killer wave came in at a speed of 800km/h. That was abt 8 times the speed of a car at a expressway. You could imagine the impact. Even with ample notice, how far can one go? This seemed like a scene in the movie "Deep Impact".
One of my colleagues' friend, flew into Phuket as a volunteer and he had written back with gory details of dead bodies lining the streets and difficult rescue operations in waist-deep mud. And because the bodies were submerged in water, they came out bloated with eyeballs popping out of the sockets. The stench of death and rotting flesh filled the air and that very smell was what filled his nostrils as he slept, ate and drank in the volunteers' camp. I salute these people who render help so relentlessly and tirelessly in times of need.
We do not know what will happen tomorrow. At least, we have a gift. i.e. TODAY.
