Each of us has different emotional tolerances. Some break down easily. Some are expressionless. Some hold the tears well. Some cry without tears.
On day 1, bata granny was there. She broke into tears when she saw ah po in the coffin. She was crying and singing a song. The first, third sister and long were there to console her. But none of them were able to persuade her to go out. Each one took one limb and tried to pull her out gently. But she had her feets rooted to the ground. The moment was touching. Several of us heard the commotion and rushed in. There were drops of tears in everyone who witnessed this moment. It took us 30 mins to get her out.
However, there was some light moments.
Remember one scene on Day 1. Ah po was to be served with 3 meals at regular time intervals as instructed by the priest. So third bro's wife knelt down beside the coffin and started crying: " Ah po, wake up and drink your tea...." She believed that this act was important to "wake" her spiritually. Bata granny walked in and stopped her from crying. The third bro's wife stopped her act immediately. Bata granny lammented: "Eh, u called wrongly already. u should called "ah ma" not "ah po". She is your mother in law not grand mother." Almost instantaneouly after the third bro's wife was corrected, she started the wailing: "Ah ma, wake up and drink your tea" . All broke into laughter, seeing how fast she could continue her act.
